Venture Maritime, the marine section of Venture Risk Management, is a recognised and SAMI registered professional security provider operating offshore East Africa. Venture Maritime provides a diverse range of offshore security solutions to ensure that clients are able to operate on the seas whilst minimising the risks to their personnel and assets. Venture Risk Management’s maritime unit featured in the UK’s Sunday Times as one of the companies leading the counter-piracy campaign off eastern Africa (download article).
Our Maritime Security Operators (MSOs) are drawn from western maritime military forces and are fully vetted for their skills, experience and suitability for this type of task before we deploy them on any vessels. All MSOs, both western and east African, have undergone specific counter-piracy training and are fully equipped to deal with the current threats faced by vessel operators in the area.
Our teams can be composed of all western ex-military MSOs but we propose a combination team which ensures adequate experience on board and sufficient protection at times of high alert, but avoids surplus capacity on board and thereby provides the ideal level of experience, skills and competence to respond to any threat.
Our service delivery includes vessel assessments, recommendations to the Master, crew briefings, emergency drill practices, citadel preparation, vessel hardening advice and 24/7 watch keeping.
Venture Risk Management provides maritime security in conjunction with the host nation forces if operating within national waters. Our preference is to operate in a quality assurance role to ensure that the security provided by host nations meets the needs and expectations of the client, including the adherence to international Health, safety and Environment regulations. We have deployed mixed teams on board vessels and on board security escort vessels sourced by us on behalf of clients. Where possible we act in a liaison role and provide mentoring and skills training if requested and have deployed in Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and the Comoros Islands alongside a host military force.
Our key clients have been:
- Seismic vessels
- Static offshore rigs
- Barge off/loading operations
- Regional vessel transits
- We have a stringent set of Rules on the Use of Force which all employees are fully briefed on and regularly updated on. These rules are in accordance with UK developed Best Practice methodology.
- We are signatories to the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers.
- We are members of the Security Association for the Maritime Industry (SAMI).
- We recognise and comply with the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
